Here in the clinic, in Berry’s Arcade in Rayleigh, Essex, I sit and write my blog post, looking out over Bellingham lane and the iconic Rayleigh windmill.
Having lived in Rayleigh for the last 7 years and adoring the busy high street, I’m so excited to now be part of the hub of the community.
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind since getting the keys on 1st April.
From physically setting up the place (with some very kind help from my husband James and his team @supply2location for the manpower), to changing processes, to cutting an enormous amount of keys!
To learning how to turn the heating on (!), how the printer works (!) and use the card machine (!) and many more potential technical hitches.
To then welcoming our first clients through the door.. all within a pandemic and making sure everything was Covid safe and all guidelines followed..
It’s been a busy few weeks but we are there. Phew!
We are steadily cracking on with the waiting list and working towards our goal of providing easily accessible, high quality independent speech therapy in South East Essex.
We’ve got plans to run a “Summer Speech Clinic” over the summer holidays to help children improve their unclear speech before they go or go back to school and our new parent and baby group “Chatty Babies” is in motion for a summer kick off.
For adult clients, we will be developing our urgent community swallowing assessment service in the next few months and continuing our rehabilitation service with home visits to those clients that cannot attend the first floor clinic.
All in all, it’s been great!
There’s been mornings where I’ve felt so nervous about all the change but many, many moments where I’ve had to pinch myself that I’ve really got my own clinic to work from with my lovely team. It’s just fabulous!
